Who hasn’t heard of Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird but seeing it performed on stage is a next level entertainment which Gielgud Theatre is providing next year in May.
After getting remarkable triumph on Broadway, To Kill A Mockingbird is going to be transferred in West End to gladden the spectators. To Kill A Mockingbird is a play adapted by 1960 Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the same name by Harper Lee.
The story is about Atticus Finch, a lawyer and his daughter Scout who live in a small Southern-town.
It is the tale of racial injustice and human compassion.
Atticus Finch fights for what he believes in when he takes the challenge of defending Tom Robinson who is accused of rape.
There are 45 million copies of Harper Lee’s novel To Kill A Mockingbird and is an all-time best seller. The director of the play is Bartlett Sher who is already famous for giving shows like The King And I and Oslo.
The play got nine Tony Award nominations and broke the Box Office record by grossing $1.5 Million in one week.
Aaron Sorkin, the writer of the play made sure that the adaptation by him is unique from the other adaptations of To Kill The Mockingbird.
As he admits clearly: "As far as Atticus and his virtue goes, this is a different take on Mockingbird than Harper Lee's or Horton Foote's." Rhys Ifans will perform the iconic character of Atticus Finch, who is currently performing in On Bear Ridge at the Royal Court and is famous for his roles in Exit the King at the National Theatre and in Christmas Carol at the Old Vic.
